"Geriatric Corgis"

One breeder said there was no need to test for DM because it was a "disease of geriatric dogs." The following is a video of a "geriatric corgi" running agility 1 week short of her 14th birthday.

She is a DM carrier.

That's what a geriatric corgi should look like. Not this.

I've had trouble with the "geriatric dog" statement as well. My Julie (carrier) lived to 15. A son and daughter by Juneau were symptomatic with DM at 10. If we grant that Julie was equivalent to a 90-year-old human (the 7-year ratio is not accurate, at least for corgis). That means that her son and daughter came down with DM at the equivalent of 60 in human years.

Coming up on that age myself in the next couple of years, I take some offense.
